A New Generation
Pushing the boundaries of watch design further than ever before, Audemars Piguet has unveiled the Code 11.59 Universelle RD#4, featuring a total of 23 complications. The Code 11.59 collection broke all the rules when it was first launched in 2019, revolutionising overnight rather than evolving slowly. Four years on, it has matured and for 2023 comes the Universelle RD#4 – its name derived from standing on the cusp of a new day.
The watchmaker call this its “very first ultra – complicated self winding wristwatch” incorporating 40 functions, 23 complications, 1,155 components, and 17 special technical devices which the brand believes will pave the way for a new generation of R&D movements.

The Univeselle
The Univeselle has it all, as the name suggests – a Grande Sonnerie Supersonnerie, a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, a split-seconds flyback chronograph and a flying tourbillon among its offerings. Bringing together more than seven years of work, RD#4 incorporates the previous three Audemars Piguet R&D innovations – the Supersonnerie from RD#1, the ultra-thin perpetual calendar from RD#2, and the flying tourbillon from RD#3.

Legendary Inspiration
There are six push pieces in total, which control every function of the watch without the need for tools.
The case’s thin bezel and octagonal midcase are inspired by the legendary Royal Oak. At 42mm wide and 15.55mm deep, it remains an elegant design while packing in functions. Having set out to revolutionise rather than evolve, it appears that within just four years, Code 11.59 has reached the top of the food chain.
